Historically Underrealized Businesses (HUB)

Our department has had a growing focus on providing financial assistance and program support to Historically Underrealized Businesses (HUB). In these efforts we support women and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) owned businesses, which often face significant barriers to growth. We work alongside community leaders and organizations like Empowerment, INC and Chapel Hill Diversity  to support, promote, and connect these business owners and innovators.

Revive Grant Impact

In June 2021, the Town Council appropriated $200,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to create and market the program.

For-profit enterprises and qualifying non-profits with employees received awards.  Comprehensive outreach and community marketing efforts produced a very diverse cohort of grantees. 70 % of recipients are women-owned businesses, 44% are BIPOC- owned (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) businesses, and 16% are non-native English speakers. Grants ranged from $1,000 to $5,000 to support enterprise growth through the pandemic.
